Service Personnel to receive full arrears starting today – Acting Dir Felix Gyamfi … Read More

The Acting Director of the Ghana National Service Authority, Felix Gyamfi, has announced that all outstanding allowances for National Service personnel across the country will be fully paid starting tomorrow, following a directive from President John Mahama.

In an interview on Joy FM’s PM Express on Wednesday, February 12, Gyamfi expressed appreciation for the President’s quick intervention, noting that Mahama has always been concerned about delays in payments to service personnel, even before taking office.

“We are grateful to President John Mahama for his support. Even before he became president, he raised concerns about delays in service personnel payments, especially since the allowance is modest at ¢715, which is affected by inflation. Once we presented the figures to him, he directed that all outstanding payments be made,” he said.

Gyamfi confirmed that the payments for the months of August to December will be processed, providing much-needed relief to service personnel.

“Starting tomorrow, service personnel will begin receiving all overdue payments for the months of August, September, October, November, and December,” he confirmed.

He also pointed to corruption and inefficiency within the system as the primary causes of the delayed payments in recent years.

“In the past eight years, corruption and incompetence have contributed to delays in payment of service allowances, which has affected the timely delivery of payments,” he explained.

When asked about the possibility of increasing the current allowance, Gyamfi indicated that President Mahama is committed to improving conditions for service personnel.

“President Mahama understands the situation and has already taken steps to reduce corruption. I’m confident that he is considering how to reinvest savings into further improving allowances for service personnel,” he added.

The announcement has provided relief to National Service personnel, many of whom have faced financial difficulties due to delayed payments. With a focus on improving efficiency and reducing corruption, Gyamfi is optimistic about a more reliable payment system in the future.
