A student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), affiliated with Unity Hall (Conti), has been hospitalised after being stabbed multiple times during a violent altercation at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) “Thank You” tour event in the Ashanti Region.
The incident took place on Tuesday at the Bantama Pentecost Church, the venue for the event.
The victim was a member of the Unity Hall Jama group, which had been invited by the camp of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, to provide musical support and energize the gathering.
Eyewitnesses report that during the event, a wealthy associate of Kennedy Agyapong gave money to the Jama group as a token of appreciation. Shortly afterward, a group of heavily built, armed men—believed to be affiliated with the NPP—stormed the scene and seized the money.
This triggered a confrontation between the Jama group and the armed men, leading to chaos, during which gunshots were reportedly fired. Amid the commotion, one member of the Jama group was stabbed.
The victim was immediately rushed to the emergency unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Kennedy Agyapong and his team have since lodged an official complaint at the Kumasi Central Police Command. As of now, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.
